Gelato at the Villa Book Review

Robin Jones Gunn delivered another absolutely delightful novel in Gelato at the Villa, the second installment in the Suitcase Sisters Series. The character were so relatable, and the settings in Italy made me jealous of their adventures.

Suitcase sisters Grace and Clair both needed a trip away from home to clear their heads. They decided Italy would be the perfect place to reconnect with themselves and find enjoyment in life again.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this book was how down-to-earth the character were. This was the first novel by Gunn I had read, and while I had seen the reviews praising her relatable characters, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical. But my reservations were completely unfounded! Grace and Clair felt so real. I could empathize with Grace’s fear of disappointing others and see the courage of Clair in many of my close friends.

Their discussions about life and faith could easily have been my own. The genuine moments of friendship between them felt less like words on a page and more like opening a window into another life.

And the descriptions of Italy! I’ll admit that visiting there wasn’t high on my bucket list before, but now my mouth is watering at the mention of gelato and pasta.

It was truly a delightful read. I have a feeling more of the Suitcase Sister novels will be making their way onto my bookshelf!
